Lucy believes therapy is a collaborative process. She asks lots of questions about what is and isn't working in a client's life. Problems are seen as separate from people. Clients are seen as the "experts" on their own lives. Lucy is interested in learning about clients' strengths. She sees value in identifying and deconstructing cultural influences and other factors that may impact self-perception and identity.

She employs a combination of Post-Modern, Cognitive Behavioral, and Mindfulness-based approaches, according to the needs and preferences of her clients. Lucy invites and welcomes client feedback about the process. Sessions feel conversational, nonjudgmental, and client-driven.

While therapy can be a helpful tool, Lucy helps clients to identify and stay linked to other important resources such as spiritual practices,12-step programs, support groups, and other opportunities for connection as relevant. When appropriate, family members and other loved ones may be invited into session to help fortify client gains or address specific goals.

Approach

Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Use the contact form on this website or call me at (310) 980-6329 to set up an initial phone consultation. We'll talk for a few minutes so I can broadly get to know what brings you to therapy and determine if I'm the right person to help you. (If I'm not, I'll provide you with referrals.) Sometimes it's hard to make that first call; I won't keep you too long. If it seems like a good fit, we'll set an appointment. I'll email you my initial paperwork for completion along with a secure telehealth link.

  • I offer flexible weekday hours.

  • Sessions are typically 50 minutes long. Clients occasionally request double sessions as needed. I offer short and longer-term work. We will determine together how often you want to come and for how long. Some clients come in to work on specific problems and then stop when they feel better, coming in for “booster” sessions as needed. Some people find that ongoing, regular therapy is helpful for persistent problems or they view sessions as part of their self-care regimens. I work flexibly and collaboratively with clients to figure out what best suits their needs and lifestyles.

  • Currently I only offer telehealth sessions.

  • I prefer to discuss fee with you when you contact me to set up your initial visit. I offer limited sliding scale appointments based on income and ability to pay. If you need a reduced fee, please let me know. If I am unable to accommodate your financial situation, I will try my best to assist you in finding appropriate referrals.

  • While I'm not on any insurance panels, I can provide you with a monthly statement of services rendered (a superbill) if you would like to seek reimbursement from your insurance company. I recommend contacting your insurance prior to the first session to ask the following questions:

    • What percentage of my bill, if any, will be covered for services obtained from an out-of-network Marriage and Family Therapist?

    • How many sessions will be covered per calendar year?

    • What is my deductible?

    • How quickly is reimbursement processed?
